Where does Dubai rank in top 20 cities to propose?

Dubai: Proposals can be a nerve-wrecking experience but if you get the destination right, you’re already halfway through to popping the big question.

With its lavish hotels, luxury beaches and candlelit dinners prepared by Michelin-star chefs, its easy to see how Dubai has made it in the top 20 most popular places in the world to propose in 2016.

In a recent study, luxury jewellery creators Ingle and Rhode analysed data from Instagram through filtering an average of 80 million photos that were uploaded every day during the last year.

According to research, social media users globally ranked Dubai as the 17th romantic city to propose in.

“From Paris and the language of love, to the bursting metropolis and skyline of New York City, these are the most romantic locations in the world to get down on one knee according to Instagram.”

The study further showed that the U.S. has the most number of cities popular for proposals – with New York ranked at first place, followed by Los Angeles and Seattle in second and third.

“We combined data from four Instagram hashtags - #isaidyes, #proposal, #proposed and #heproposed to find more than 250,000 photos,” it said.

“The geographical coordinates were identified by checking the longitude and latitude of each image. We then cross referenced these to the nearest city to find the most popular locations for people to get engaged.”

Marriages in Dubai

Records provided by Dubai Statistics Centre has revealed a slight increase in the number of marriages registered at Dubai Courts from 4,787 in 2013 to 4,852 in 2015.

Statistics also showedthat out of the total number of marriages in 2015, 1,080 were between Emirati couples, while 763 were between Emirati men and foreign women, and 3,009 were among expatriate couples.
