After years of whispers, fan castings and general hoping, the fan-adored Marvel comic series Runaways is finally getting a TV series adaptation on Hulu. This is a big deal for fans and for Hulu.

Deadline broke the news that former executive producer of Gossip Girl and Chuck Josh Schwartz would be re-teaming with Stephanie Savage (executive producer of Astronaut Wives Club, Gossip Girl and The O.C.) to bring the comic book series to life.

Created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Adrian Alphona, the comic book series follows group of privileged kids who find out that their parents all belong to secret society of supervillains. Instead of joining in on the mayhem and murder, they strike out on their own, hence the title.

There’s magic and super powers and telepathically connected dinosaur companions, but there’s also a lot of heart. The story itself a great blend of comic book fantasy with teen drama. Characters die, parents turn out to be monsters, plus Buffy showrunner Joss Whedon took a turn writing on the series, so it’s chockablock full of self awareness and angst.

The show is officially titled Marvel’s Runaways, and Schwartz and Savage are both slated as showrunners, but all other details are yet to be revealed.
