Anthology maestro Ryan Murphy has shared several details about the forthcoming season of American Horror Story.

The FX show, whose next instalment will be called American Horror Story: Radioactive, begins shooting its eighth season in mid-June, and the new iteration takes place “18 months from today,” Murphy revealed on Friday during an event in Los Angeles.

The co-creator and executive producer also confirmed that Dynasty veteran Joan Collins will be joining the cast, which includes Murphy staples such as Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, Adina Porter and Leslie Grossman. Several of the actors joined him on the Friday panel.

Collins will play Peters’ grandmother and Peters, who has featured in the series since it debuted in 2011, will play a hair stylist, Murphy said. He was tight-lipped about everything else.

Unlike last year’s politically charged seventh season, American Horror Story: Cult, Radioactive is expected to return to the fantasy-inspired motifs of earlier seasons, which have revolved around an insane asylum, a carnival, a spooky hotel and witchcraft.

“It’s heightened,” Murphy said. “It’s not necessarily as real and grounded as the past season. We’re sort of getting back to Asylum and Coven. That’s the tone of it.”

Radioactive is expected to debut in September.
