CNN’s sister cable channel is dropping addiction expert Dr. Drew Pinsky’s nightly prime-time show, Dr. Drew, on September 22.
The programme, which has aired on HLN since 2011, is the latest casualty of an overall revamp at the channel aimed at returning it to its news roots. HLN, formerly known as CNN Headline News, canceled Nancy Grace’s legal show earlier this year.
Pinsky, whose contract was up at HLN, will remain as a CNN contributor after Dr. Drew finishes its run. In a memo to staff, CNN executive vice-president Ken Jautz said there was mutual agreement to end the programme.
“It has been a privilege working at HLN,” Pinsky said in a statement. “My executive producer Burt Dubrow and our outstanding staff and contributors were consistently exceptional. I am very excited to stay within the CNN Worldwide family as a contributor.”
Until a new programme is launched for the 7pm ET time slot in early 2017, HLN will air repeats of the Forensic Files and original series from CNN.
