Dubai A Dubai-based IT service provider is launching a new technology that helps keep track of pets.
Called Pod-My Pet Finder, the pet-dedicated GPS tracker will be sold in the UAE from mid-March, company CEO Ahmed Ayouche told XPRESS.
“Worldwide, over 10 million pets get lost every year, of which only 10 per cent get reunited with their owners. Missing pets are a big concern in the UAE too.”
Beyond microchips
He said the country’s pet community, which has over 30,000 members in 25 listed pet groups on the social media, is very active when a pet goes missing.
“Lost pet listings can be found everywhere. Most pet owners rely on microchips to locate their missing pets, which can only be tracked when someone finds the pet and brings it to a veterinary clinic or animal welfare service. They use social media, flyers and posters to seek help to find their missing pets.”
But often, there is little headway made in locating a lost pet. “That’s the reason why we wanted to provide a solution in the form of My Pet Finder. The technology integrates an on-collar GPS plus Wi-Fi tracking device and mobile application to track a pet’s mobility in real time. Besides being GPS and Wi-Fi enabled and allowing 24/7 tracking, it has a worldwide network coverage and monitors health and activity levels.
The device fits all collars, is small, light and waterproof. It comes with replaceable batteries and can be used for up to six days at a time. It is compatible with Android, iOS and web browsers.
The device costs Dh990 with an additional Dh350 for a 12-month data package.
My Pet Finder’s applications
1. Location on-demand: The “locate now” button allows you to request your pet’s current position and displays it on a map in real time
2. Escape Alerts: Setting up “Safe zone” protect your pet with a virtual fence that sends escape alerts
3. Map Navigation: You can record up to eight hours of your pet’s secret life with tracking and sync with the app via bluetooth on their return.
4. Record Adventures: You can get directions to your pet’s location
5. Monitor Activity: Pod automatically records your pet’s activity level allowing you to monitor its health and fitness.
