A UAE delegation will head to Cannes Film Festival this month in an effort to champion Arab cinema. The festival, celebrating its 70th anniversary, will take place from May 17 to 28.

The UAE has had a presence at Cannes for the past 15 years. This year’s delegation, which will be based in the UAE Pavilion at the festival, will comprise of members of Dubai Film and TV Comission, Dubai Studio City, Sharjah International Children’s Film Festival and Dubai International Film Festival (Diff).

The UAE Pavilion, location in the International Village, will share with a global audience a glimpse of storytelling from the Arab world, as well as Arabic, Bollywood and Hollywood films produced in the Emirates over the past year.

“Near to Diff’s heart is the development and growth of Arab talent and we are excited to help support those from the Arab world going to Cannes so they can connect with the international film industry and maximise opportunities to further expand the presence and recognition of Arab cinema on the world stage,” said Abdul Hamid Juma, chairman of the Dubai International Film Festival.

Dubai Film Market (DFM) will once again partner up with Marche du Film to hold an exclusive screening of five works in progress from the Arab world.

Five films from Diff’s 13th edition, which were supported by Enjaaz (a DFM production and post-production support programme), will also screen at Cannes Short Film Corner.
