The brand new Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man has finally confirmed the writers who will be tackling the total superhero reboot. And if the past work of writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are any indication of what the new Spider-Man will be channeling, it’s safe to say that humour will be front and cenre in the new movie series.

Co-writers and co-directors of the new Vacation reboot Daley and Goldstein have a long list of comedy work behind them including Horrible Bosses and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2. And while discussing their latest sequel to National Lampoon’s Vacation, the pair also officially confirmed their attachment to the new Spider-Man movie.

“This is the first time that we can say that we are writing it,” Daley said.

As for the tone of the film, that’s still speculation, but the twosome’s backlog of comedy work and Daley’s elaboration on what he thinks about the Peter Parker character do seem to jibe with the whole younger, funnier Spider-Man that many fans have been anticipating with the casting of new Spider-Man actor Tom Holland.

“He’s a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he’s an outcast and a geek through humor,” said Daley. “It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he’s coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have.”

In our previous interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige pushed the return to a younger Spider-Man, and elaborated on how this iteration would be different from the Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire versions, “The one thing that hasn’t been able to be explored in the other five [Spider-Man] movies is his relationship to the broader Marvel Universe and that’s something that was exciting to us. To go back to those Stan Lee, Steve Ditko origin tales of having him be younger and that dichotomy with dealing with the rest, and also in Brian Michael Bendis’ Ultimate Spider-Man. That the younger he was, the more truer he was to the original Spider-Man comic book stories and also the more unique and different he would be in comparison to the other Marvel heroes.”

However the new Spider-Man lands, we’re just hoping that the new Marvel Cinematic Universe connection allows for even more Thor jokes.
