The new wave of Malayalam cinema is making its presence felt in the industry with unusual stories and titles.

Debutant director Gireesh, who has been waiting in the wings to take off on his own, keeps everyone guessing with a title like Ninnem Kollum Njaanum Chaavum.

“The title, which means I will kill you and then kill myself, is an indicator of the present generation’s attitude towards love and break-up,” said Gireesh, who has also written the script.

The rom-com revolves around three friends played by Sunny Wayne and newcomers Praveen and Sanju.

“It dwells more on their love lives and what happens after [they] break up,” explained this former assistant of directors Shyama Prasad and Lal Jose.

Wayne plays Roshan, a cosmetic surgeon.

“Dr Roshan is a playboy,” added Gireesh. “Praveen plays a television producer, while Sanju plays an assistant director.”

Supporting the story are three heroines, namely Sija Rose, Poojitha Menon and Rohini Miriam. The film was shot in Goa, Kochi and Mangallapuram.

Thanking his producers, Sandip Senan and Anish M. Thomas, the 32-year-old filmmaker said: “The film was made possible due to the conviction of my producers, who were courageous to work with a new team and fresh faces. Besides, they allowed us complete freedom.”
