Grace under fire might aptly define Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha.
This Diwali her comedy Son Of Sardaar is pitted against the mammoth, sweeping romance Jab Tak Hai Jaan starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.
However, the daughter of firebrand politician Shatrugnan Sinha isn’t flustered.
“It doesn’t bother me much,” said Sinha in an interview with tabloid! ahead of her film’s release.
“Sometimes there are two or three films that release during Diwali. We just look at it that way. Diwali is a big festival and both these films are different from one another … they will have their own audiences,” said Sinha.
Son Of Sardaar, billed as a comedy set against the backdrop of fun-loving Punjabis, is Sinha’s fourth release after her blockbusters Dabangg and Rowdy Rathore. She let us in on the film, Ajay Devgn and her fabulous single life…
“Diwali is a big festival and there’s room for big films”
All this hullabaloo that’s going around is being created by the media. It’s their fodder for good headlines like ‘Clash Of The Titans’. That’s all there is to it. As far as people who are involved in this film, we are confident about our product. Now, we hope for the best.”
“Son Of Sardaar portrays Punjabis in a positive light”
It’s a fun film and is not aimed at hurting anyone’s sentiments. The best part about a Punjabi family is that they do everything larger than life. They love big, they fight and laugh big. We show Punjabi culture and their values in the right sense. I don’t think anybody will be offended. Recently, we had a screening for the Sardar community and they thoroughly enjoyed the film.
“I was laughing hard when I read the script”
I feel blessed that I am a part of such good films. On the script level, Son of Sardaar had me in splits and made me think: if on paper, the film is doing so well then imagine its power on the big screen. As an actor, I always choose films from an audience perspective. ‘Will I watch such a film’ is the question that I ask myself when a script comes my way. Son Of Sardaar had me from the word go.
Ajay’s comic timing is brilliant
When he’s on the set, he is serious and focused. He is emotionally invested in his roles. But when the cameras are switched off, he’s a prankster and a jovial guy. It is nice to work with somebody who is so balanced. A good working atmosphere is always guaranteed when working with Ajay.
“Comedy comes naturally to me”
I grew up with a good sense of humour. That helps. People have often told me that it is tough to make people laugh. But when I was dubbing for Son Of Sardaar, I couldn’t help but laugh at some of the hilarious scenes.
“I have no time for love”
I am single and I don’t have the time to change that status any time soon. Currently, I am so involved with my work. If I am not shooting for a film, I am promoting films. When love has to happen, it will happen.
