Horror comic Aleister Arcane is headed for the big screen.

Jim Carrey has signed on to star and executive produce the movie adaptation with Eli Roth attached to direct.

A 2004 comic written by Steve Niles and illustrated by Breehn Burns, Aleister Arcane tells the story of Aleister Green, a former TV weatherman who plays late-night TV horror host Aleister Arcane in his hometown of Jackson, Oklahoma, until he is forced off the air. Years after being shunned by the Jackson establishment, Aleister dies leaving behind a curse that only a group of children who befriended him can stop in order to save their town.

Carrey, of course, is an actor known for his comedy chops and was most recently seen in the movie Dumb and Dumber To.

His previous forays into comic book films include playing Colonel Stars and Stripes in Kick-Ass 2, the Riddler in Batman Forever and the title character in The Mask.

Roth, on the other hand, is known for directing horror films such as Hostel and Hostel: Part II. He recently directed Knock Knock with Keanu Reeves and is also attached to direct Bruce Willis in the upcoming Death Wish remake.

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment will develop the Aleister Arcane adaptation that will be penned by The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death scribe Jon Croker.
