India’s biggest Hollywood export, Frieda Pinto, will put her thinking cap on to judge this region’s talent at the ninth edition of Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) next week.

The Trishna star will evaluate the short film competitions in the Muhr Arab, Muhr AsiaAfrica and Muhr Emirati categories. She will be joined by Emirati filmmaker Nayla Al Khaja and film critic Mark Adams.

Several other renowned filmmakers will join her to judge the best in this year’s DIFF.

British director Michael Apted, who will be given a lifetime achievement award during this year’s festival, is a part of the judging panel that will pick Muhr Arab Documentary winners. He will be joined by Jordanian documentarian Azza Al Hassan and Chris Fujiwara, artistic director of the Edinburgh international film festival.

The filmmakers competing in the Muhr Arab Feature competition will be assessed by Brazilian director Bruno Barreto. Assisting him will be Egyptian actor Asser Yassin, Tunisian film director Moufida Tlatli, Martin Schweighofer, CEO of the Austrian Film Commission and author Adnan Madanat.

Judging the Muhr AsiaAfrica feature awards is South Korean film director, novelist, and Minister of Culture Lee Chang-dong. Istanbul International Film Festival Director Azize Tan, Iranian actress Fatemah Motamed-Aria, New Zealand actress Kerry Fox and Nigerian director and cinematographer Tunde Kelani will join to pick the top talents.
