Marvel has released a brand new behind-the-scenes featurette explaining Doctor Strange, because let’s be real — nobody really knows exactly what this movie is going to be about.

The brief clip includes Chiwetel Ejiofor talking Karl Mordo and Tilda Swinton explaining how the Ancient One deals in “real, proper ... magic,” as well as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Mads Mikkelsen teasing the Doctor Strange villains.

“We’re excited about the villains in this film,” said Feige as he described the zealots. He also explains that Mikkelsens’ Kaecilius is interested in spilling the barriers between dimensions.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular surgeon-turned-sorcerer who discovers the world of magic and alternate dimensions following a devastating car accident. The film will also feature Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Scott Adkins and Benjamin Bratt.

With the release date just over two months away, perhaps Marvel is ready to amp up its promotion of the film. At least on its Twitter feed it’s been slowly building excitement and preparing fans for the weirdness they can expect on Doctor Strange.

To be fair, the mainstream world wasn’t super exposed to Iron Man or Ant-Man when they first came out, and the characters found fame. However, Doctor Strange is a big step forward into the mystic world of Marvel, and it should be interesting to see if audiences latch on. But hey, if folks can follow along with a climax that includes unleashing a dangerous “Aether” at the centre of a cosmic convergence in Thor 2, then why not a guy with magic hands?

That said, there are still a lot of unknowns with Doctor Strange other than what we’ve seen in the trailers. And if the trailers are anything to go by, the film will show a very different side to the MCU.

Doctor Strange hits theatres in the US on November 4.
