Fantastic news, movie fans: The Dubai International Film Festival’s (Diff) open-air screenings will return this December.

The free movie screenings take place under the stars and on the sand at The Beach, opposite JBR in Dubai Marina.

There will be eight nights of screenings from December 7-14, beginning with a livestream of the opening night of Diff showing the red carpet opening at Madinat Jumeirah, followed by a film.

The festival has not released details of the films to be screened, but they are always a highlight of the festival. One of last year’s best events was a screening of Jaws, preceded by a Q&A with the film’s star, Richard Dreyfuss.

Entry is on a first-come, first-served basis, and while there are beanbags, we also recommend you bring a picnic and a jacket or blanket.

Abdulhamid Juma, Diff’s chairman, said the beach screenings “are such an important part of our programme and really bring the community together around a shared appreciation of a good story, well told. This year once again there will be something for everyone as we join to watch some of this year’s greatest films from around the world.”

Ticket packages for the festival screenings — which include award-winning films such as I, Daniel Blake and La La Land, are on sale at diff.ae.
