Picking a voice for an alien warlord stripped of his body and reduced to spend his days imprisoned inside a brain-shaped mound of pink meat is complicated. What does a wailing mound of flesh hell-bent on world domination sound like? To Paramount, that creature sounds like actor Brad Garrett.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Brad Garrett from Everybody Loves Raymond and Finding Nemo is voicing the villain Krang in the second Turtles feature, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.

During the 2016 WonderCon panel for TMNT, panellists announced that former Saturday Night Live comedian Fred Armisen would be lending his voice to the Krang. This was never officially confirmed by Paramount, and Armisen is no longer in the film due to scheduling issues.

The next film in the TMNT franchise will introduce a heap of fan-favourite characters absent from the first one, including the dim-witted goons Bebop the mutated warthog and Rocksteady the rhino. But even more bizarre than the WWE’s Sheamus O’Shaunessy playing a half-human, half-rhino creature is the supervillain Krang.

Banished from his home planet, Krang comes to Earth looking to rule. Armed with his mighty technodrome (a rotund battleship) and a human-shaped exosuit that allows his brain-body mobility, Krang is an absurd megalomaniac.

Krang found fame in the comics and on the ‘90s TV series, where he was voiced by longtime TMNT contributor Pat Fraley. Now, the world will see Krang in his “real-life” (computer-generated) form. What a time to be alive.

One could conclude that casting Garrett as the voice of Krang would bring more of a baritone sound to this normally nasally character, but we’ve yet to hear a single sound from the angry alien, so how he will sound is anybody’s guess.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will release in the UAE on July 7.
