With Eid just around the corner, there is a lot brewing in the Malayalam industry. From comedy entertainers to family dramas and political stories, the fight for space in theatres begins from June 24.

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Oru Cinemakaran, directed by Leo Thaddeus, leads the way. Thaddeus’ story follows an aspiring filmmaker and his love life.

Rajisha Vijayan, this year’s Kerala State Award winner for best actress is paired opposite Sreenivasan. The supporting cast includes Renji Panicker, Lal Sr. Anusree and Vijay Babu.

Thaddeus says his film is a romantic family entertainer.

Oru Cinemakaran is the maiden venture of UAE resident Thomas Panicker, under his production house Opus Penta.

Up next on June 25 is the Rafi-directed Role Models.

This buddy tale features Fahad Faasil and Namitha Pramod in the lead.

Role Models is about five friends from college who are brought together by a problem in one buddy’s life. The supporting cast includes Vinayakan, Vinay Fort, Sharafuddin and Srinda Ashab. Rafi also plays an interesting role in this story.

One thing you can be certain with a Rafi film is plenty of laugh out loud moments.

Coming up later in the week on June 29 is the much-anticipated Tiyaan, a Pan-Indian story scripted by Murali Gopi. Brothers Inderjit and Prithviraj play the leads along with a host of stars, namely Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ananya, Padmapriya, Rahul Madhav and Shine Tom Chacko. Gopi Junior is also playing a prominent role as revealed by the trailers.

Another film with high expectations is actor-director Dileesh Pothan’s Thondimuthalum Drikshasakshiyum with Faasil in the lead. The duo are back after Maheshinte Prathikaaram, which won both the Indian National and Kerala State Award for best screenplay and best feature film. Thondimuthalum Driskshasakshiyum is also releasing on June 29.
