Actress Alia Bhatt says her upcoming romantic-comedy, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, is not a sequel to 2014 hit Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania — which featured her and Varun Dhawan — but both are definitely part of a franchise.
Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania was an endearing love story between a young feisty Ambala girl and a carefree Delhi boy.
Bhatt explains: “The film is not a sequel, it’s not a continuation. It’s a franchise. It’s a different story, it has another person and dulhania [bride] with a common thread that’s a love story,” she said.
The 23-year-old Kapoor and Sons actress is excited to re-team not only with Dhawan for this film but also director Shashank Khaitan, who helmed the first movie.
“It’s great to be back with the whole team. There’s not only Varun but also our director Shashank, the director of photography is the same, the sound designer is the same. It’s like working with family.”
The film is being produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
