Big Miracle

Who's in it? John Krasinski, Drew Barrymore, Kristen Bell
Rating 4 out of 5
The plot Based on a true story, this lovely family drama tells the tale of a small-town news reporter, Adam (Krasinski), and an animal activist, Rachel (Barrymore), who mobilise their community and the world, to save a family of grey whales stuck in the Arctic Circle. The film tackles the big-ticket issues of media dominance, political rivalry and corporate greed, but stays heartwarming and fun to watch all the same. A good family film.

Young Adult

Who's in it? Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, Patton Oswalt
Rating 4 out of 5
The plot Mavis Gary (Theron) is a ghostwriter of teen fiction who is acerbic, selfish and
unwilling to let go of her high school glory days. Facing a 30-something crisis (a thrisis!), she heads back to her home town to try and reclaim her high school sweetheart (Wilson), who’s now happily married. Theron is brilliant at being bad in the film, as is Oswalt, who shines as her former classmate and, now, only friend.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Who's in it? Dwayne Johnson, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Michael Caine
Rating 2 out of 5
The plot This family flick has fun jungle action and strong performances, but a weak
plot. It tells the story of Sean (Hutcherson from The Hunger Games) who journeys with his stepfather, Hank (Johnson), a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman), and his beautiful daughter (Hudgens) to an island full of strange flora and fauna to find the person whose
been sending him SOS signals.
