Forget supercars, McLaren is gunning straight for hypercars, such as the Bugatti Veyron, when it comes to this 'P12' Image Credit: Supplied picture

It’s no secret since Ron Dennis openly stated that the MP4-12C is just the first newborn from McLaren Automotive, and that the company soon plans to emulate its supercar dominance in the Nineties with the F1 road car.

Our spy just sent us the first pictures of the McLaren to do it. Code named P12, the F1 successor will rival hypercars such as the upcoming Ferrari Enzo replacement, the Pagani Huayra, and even the Bugatti Veyron.

The car caught in these images was testing in full disguise on German roads, featuring a typical McLaren front end, with uncanny MP4-12C similarities. The rest of the car is much lower than the base model, though, with an extra air intake in the bonnet and on the roof.

The powertrain will be based around McLaren’s existing twin-turbo V8, but with a new KERS system to boost total output to around 800 horsepower and more.

It should cost close to a million dollars when it goes on sale in just a couple of years.
