Dubai: Adnoc Distribution said yesterday it had sharply raised its estimate of the number of customers who would switch from using its 95 octane Special gasoline to its cheaper new 91 octane E-plus fuel.

"The initial studies previously indicated that demand for the new fuel would constitute about 40 per cent of total gasoline consumption. After one week of launching it was noticed that the demand gradually increased to exceed 60 per cent in some places.

"The company was able to handle the increasing demand by implementing a contingency plan that was already in place prior to launch," an Adnoc spokes-person told Gulf News.

Residents began queuing at Adnoc petrol pumps across the UAE on October 8 to try out E-Plus which is Dh0.50 cheaper than Special.

Since Adnoc does not operate in Dubai, its residents were forced to drive to Sharjah or cross Jebel Ali to fill their tanks. However, residents of other emirates now have a wider choice.

E-plus is available at Dh5.75 per gallon in all Adnoc stations alongside Special 95 and Super 98 to meet demand for less expensive and more environment-friendly products.

"The launch of this new product is aimed at serving the public interest of the UAE," said Dr Mohammad Nader, quality control manager of Adnoc Distribution.
