Diwali is the best time of the year to show off your new clothes. After all, the festival of lights is as much about the colours and celebrations as the fashion. So, to make sure you are on your top style game, here are a few tips you must follow:

Anarkali suits

This is one trend that just refuses to die! And rightly so, as it lends a rich look with minimal effort. So, if you are someone who just loves her anarkali’s then flaunt them this Diwali without any fear of them being out of fashion. Go for a floor-length anarkali in bright jewel colours like emerald green, turquoise, pale yellow and of course ruby red with gold or silver thread embroidery.

Straight cut lehenga

If you are the on-trend type of person then you should go for this season’s must-have straight cut lehenga. Without any extra flare these lehengas flatter numerous body-types. Team it with a sexy choli to show of your amazing abs or a longer waist-length kurti to cover the pesky lumps and bumps. A dark blue silk lehenga with a golden choli would be a gorgeous choice.

Long kurta with palazzo pants

If the glitz and flares of an anarkali or lehenga are too much for you then go in for a chic kurta with palazzo pants. This outfit is very easy and light to wear and at the same time exudes elegance and glamour. A purple silk kurta with silver motifs teamed with silver palazzo pants will help you strike the right balance between comfort and style.

Sarees

Evergreen and never out of style — a saree can be your go-to outfit this Diwali. Team a vibrant saree with a corset-style blouse to up the glamour quotient or go for a blouse embellished with beads, sequins, stones or zari teamed with a plain chiffon saree.

Jewellery

Big chandelier earrings can still be worn this season but don’t miss-out on haathphools this diwali. This traditional piece of jewellery comprises of a bracelet or a bangle linked elegantly to one or more finger rings. You can also show your creativity by wearing a delicate neck-piece as a maangtikka (headwear). Big cocktail rings worn on the index finger look very stylish.

Temporary tattoos

Yes, you read it right! Make a fashion statement with an artistic tattoo placed on your waist or back to show off that low-waisted lehenga or a backless choli. You can go in for a temporary tattoo depicting either peacocks or flowers or any Indian motif.

AND FOR THE MEN...

Diwali is also the time of the year when men can indulge in Indian traditional wear and make heads turn. Here’s are a few tips:

- Get really adventurous this season and wear a dhoti and kurta instead of the usual kurta-pyjama. Go for a silk dhoti and kurta for a sauve and sophisticated look.

- Elevate the style quotient of your humble kurta-pyjama by teaming it with a waistcoat. Opt for one in a material that matches the festive mood. Get the waistcoat in silk or brocade, with a colour that goes well with your complexion.

- If your Diwali party is a casual gathering of friends, get ready for a new twist. Wear a dark or bright coloured kurta along with a pair of jeans to make a cool impression at the get-together.

- Last, but not the least, don’t forget to wear your best traditional jutti’s. No sandals or shoes, please.
