We dreamed the dream and now Dubai Opera’s making it happen. The legendary Les Miserables, the West End’s longest running musical, is coming to Dubai from November 10 to 24. Based on Victor Hugo’s classic, the show has won more than 100 awards over the years, and inspired the Oscar-winning 2012 movie version.

Tickets to the show at Dubai’s first purpose-built performing arts theatre go on sale on May 26 at 9am.

The musical, a story about the survival of the human spirit, is also known for its hit score, and features now-classic songs such as I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own, Stars, Bring Him Home, Do You Hear the People Sing?, One Day More, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables and Master of the House.

“I am delighted to be bringing my hugely acclaimed new production of Les Miserables to the stunning new Dubai Opera. The production will be sung in English by a sensational international cast, led by my current Broadway stars John Owen-Jones as Jean Valjean and Hayden Tee as Javert,” said producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh, an iconic name in musicals.

While the original production is still running at London’s West End after 30 years, the show coming to Dubai was created by Mackintosh to celebrate the musical’s 25th anniversary, featuring settings inspired by Victor Hugo’s own paintings.

The Dubai Opera is a 2,000-person capacity multi-purpose venue in Downtown Dubai that’s set to open on August 31 with a performance by Spanish opera tenor Placido Domingo. Tickets to the opening sold out in less than three hours after they went on sale.
