Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and his estranged wife Kalki Koechlin have dismissed talk that their split was due to a relationship between Kashyap and actress Huma Qureshi, who debuted in his film Gangs of Wasseypur.

Kashyap, 41, who launched Koechlin, 30, as an actress in his film Dev D but called time on their two-year marriage in November, recently attended a film screening with Qureshi, 27.

“People run only one-sided story and it’s very disturbing. Such rumours are not affecting me or Kalki but it is affecting Huma’s image. Huma is being targeted,” Kashyap said.

“When we went for the screening, photographers wanted to click us together. I said you guys will click our picture purposely and will run your own story and that’s exactly what has happened,” he added.

Koechlin on Tuesday tweeted: “...can we please leave Huma alone?! My problems with Anurag have nothing to do with her!”

The actress showed her support for Qureshi by attending the premiere of Dedh Ishqiya.

When asked about the recent focus on her personal life, Qureshi told PTI, “I don’t respond. People can speculate whatever they want. I am fine with it as far as I know what I am doing.”

Meanwhile Kashyap, who says he plans to leave Twitter “because I read so many fake stories about me”, will be seen as a police officer in thje upcoming comedy Ghoomkethu.

“As an actor you must learn to laugh at yourself. People tend to blackmail me emotionally to act in their films. We have shot almost the entire film, except for a few portions. I am playing a lazy cop in the film,” said Kashyap. Directed by Pushpendra Mishra, Ghoomkethu also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the protagonist. Reportedly, Amitabh Bachchan may also be seen in the film and when asked about it Kashyap said: “We want him in the film, but nothing is confirmed yet... we are trying our level best.”
