Appearances can be deceptive and that realisation dawns on Kush and Kushi soon after their marriage.

“Theirs is a love and hate relationship,” said Kannada director Suni talking about his recent film, Chamak.

Noted Kannada star Ganesh (of Mungaru Male fame) plays the lead role. He is Kush, a reputed gynaecologist. Rashmika Mandanna, who debuted with Kirik Party, is paired opposite him. She plays Kushi, an MBA graduate who runs an event management firm.

“Both are party animals but they do not reveal this side of each other during their courtship period. Kush is a flirt and marriage does not restrict him,” added Suni.

As the title indicates, Chamak is about getting to know the real selves beneath the outer glitter.

This is Suni’s first venture with Ganesh and Mandanna.

Chamak was shot in Bengaluru and Italy.

A bio-tech graduate, Suni knew his heart lay in films. Juggling between a medical representative’s career and assisting on film sets, he learnt the ropes of film-making.

His first film Simple Agi Ondh Love Story was a hit. Since then, he has been keen on writing a love story that explores a relationship post marriage. Chamak is the result of that effort.

The supporting cast includes Sadhu Kokila, Raghuram DP Sumithra. Judah Sandhy has composed music. Santosh Raj Pathaje is the cinematographer.

Suni is also a lyricist and a producer. Besides his debut film, he produced the critically acclaimed Ulidavaru Kandanthe, a gangster tale that was remade in Tamil and Malayalam as Richie, with Nivin Pauly in the lead.

Suni’s next film is John Seena, a thriller that will be introducing new actors.

Chamak releases in the UAE on January 18.
