Tourists have no answer to spin prowess of Jadeja and Aswin in 108-run win for hosts
Mohali: India defeated South Africa by 108 runs in the first Test in Mohali on Saturday to take the lead in the four-match series.
The tourists, who were set a victory target of 218 runs, crumbled for 109 in the final session of the third day’s play at the I. S. Bindra stadium.
Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja grabbed five wickets for 21 runs and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took three for 39. Both bowlers finished with eight wickets in the match.
Stiaan van Zyl top-scored for the tourists with 36, but seven batsmen failed to reach double figures.
The second Test starts in Bangalore next Saturday.
