David Warner kept Sunrisers Hyderabad in the race for a play-off spot with stunning 90 in his team’s six-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings at the JSCA International Stadium yesterday.

Chasing a challenging target, Warner and Shikhar Dhawan went after the Chennai bowling from the word go to add 116 runs for the first wicket in 11 overs. Warner was in his elements as his knock contained 12 fours and three sixes.

After the Australian left-hander’s exit Dhawan maintained the tempo with an unbeaten 64 to guide Sunrisers home with two balls to spare.

Earlier an unbroken 108-run stand between David Hussey (50 not out) and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (57 not out) helped Chennai Super Kings score 185 for three.

Super Kings smashed 68 runs off the last five overs with the Indian captain plundering South Africa’s premier pacer Dale Steyn for 24 off the final over. Leg-spinner Karn Sharma was the pick of the Hyderabad bowlers, claiming two wickets for just 19 runs. Opener Dwayne Smith scored 47 off 28 balls after Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bowl first.
