Going strong in Abu Dhabi

Going strong

Last updated:

More than 23,000 spectators turned out for the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship — the UAE capital's largest sporting event held from January 18 to 21 at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club - a 30 per cent increase on last year's inaugural tournament attendance of 17,787.

Owned by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, the four day championship culminated in England's Paul Casey lifting the coveted Falcon Trophy. "This is an excellent result and is proof positive that the championship has a solid place on the international tournament calendar," said Ahmad Hussain, Chairman, Abu Dhabi Golf Championship organising committee.

Spectators at this year's event saw considerable upgrades to the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, including expansive landscaping, a new clubhouse gatehouse, an extended spectator village complete with cafés, shops and prayer rooms, all undertaken to improve the guest experience.
