Dubai: The UAE’s Omar Bahroozian and Hamad Abbas Al Janahi bowed out of first-round qualifying as the Dubai Duty Free Men’s Open got under way on Saturday.

Bahroozian lost 0-6, 1-6 to Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov, after Al Janahi had gone down to Thiemo De Bakker from the Netherlands 2-6, 1-6.

“I started off well but could not sustain my level as the set progressed. This is simply because we do not play at this level during the remainder of the year. What we need is to play at a consistent level,” Al Janahi told Gulf News.

“But there are things to be learnt from just playing at this level and I am glad that I had this opportunity with our Davis Cup encounter in sight.”

Meanwhile, Dubai regular Marco Chiudinelli advanced to the final round of qualifying with a swift 6-3, 6-3 win over Germany’s Peter Gojowczyk,.

He will meet Thiemo De Bakker from the Netherlands on Sunday.

Bahroozian and Al Janahi will team up as one of two wild cards in the men’s doubles main draw, where they will face top seeds Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor.
