They are Filipino entertainment royalty. With the release of their first film together, this weekend’s Just The 3 Of Us, John Lloyd Cruz, Jennylyn Mercado and Cathy Garcia-Molina share their top tip for aspiring movie stars.
Jennylyn Mercado: You should love your craft — where do you excel or [what you] are good at. Don’t stop learning. In our work as actors, studying and learning is a lifelong process. We learn a lot from people or experiences we encounter.
John Lloyd Cruz: It really depends on what you really want and what you really want to do — what kind of actor you want to be. You have to keep it clear and be sincere. Once you already identify your core, you have to protect your core. Always seek guidance when it comes to wisdom. It’s so easy to say that you love your work, but what does it really mean? Enjoy the ride.
Cathy Garcia-Molina: As what my mentor always told me, in show business it’s 90 per cent attitude and only 10 per cent skill. So as much as you are the best actor there is, but you have a bad attitude, then no one wants to work with you. I would rather work with an artist with less talent but is willing to learn, than someone who is good but doesn’t have the right attitude.
