Dubai: A Dubai woman has designed a new healthy eating model in order to fight the menace of obesity among UAE’s children.

Lebanese entrepreneur Sara Ghosn will be rolling out ‘Yum in a Box’ for those aged between two and 10 when schools and nurseries re-open after the summer vacation. She says the concept will offer carefully designed breakfast, lunch and snack menus packed with essential ingredients for children.

“Obesity is not a problem among just the adults anymore, but even among our children today and we must aim to fight it head on,” says Ghosn, 28, who for several years volunteered with the Children’s Cancer Centre in Beirut.

Changing perception

“It was my dedication to the well-being of children that inspired me to create Yum in a Box. ‘Healthy’ is a term children often associate with tasteless greens and we want to change this perception by labelling it as ‘good food’ instead,” says Ghosn.

She puts the disinterest in healthy food among children down to the wide availability of processed food in the market today. “Each meal is packed into a colourful box designed to appeal to children of a specific age and comes with games that enhance the meal time experience, making it something they look forward to. The boxes will be delivered to nurseries, school canteens and homes, based on each mother and child’s requirement,” says Ghosn.

Ghosn has collaborated with a team of chefs and nutritionists and has spent months experimenting with food tastes and flavours before arriving at the best creative recipe to meet the daily dietary requirement of a child.

“I spent a lot of time understanding eating habits of the children in this region. This project is an extension of my passion for children of this generation,” says the graphic design graduate from London who turned her back on the corporate world to focus on what she calls is her ‘passion project’.
