Dubai: Godolphin’s outstanding sprinter Harry Angel followed up his 2017 Cartier Sprinter Award by being named the Best Sprinter in the world at the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings, released on Tuesday.

The multiple G1 winner has been given a rating of 125, the highest mark among sprinters who competed during the year.

Trainer Clive Cox said that the best was yet to come from the Darley July Cup (G1) and Haydock Sprint Cup (G1) winner.

“I am very proud of him. For a three-year-old to collect the accolade ‘best sprinter in the world’ is exceptional, and I think there is better to come from him in 2018,” he said.

“He has wintered extremely well. I will discuss plans with His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum [Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai].

“But I would naturally like to aim ‘Harry’ at Royal Ascot’s Group 1 Diamond Jubilee and then the Group 1 Darley July Cup again.

“With that in mind, he could well start his campaign in the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes at York in May,” he said.

Ribchester and Cloth of Stars also picked up accolades at the Longines Rankings.

Ribchester (124) was the world’s top-ranked specialist miler, one pound ahead of Churchill (123), while the Andre Fabre-trained Cloth Of Stars (125) was ranked equal seventh on the list.

The Longines World’s Best Racehorse for 2017 is Arrogate (134), who won the Group 1 Pegasus at Gulfstream Park, Florida, and the Group 1 Dubai World Cup at Meydan.

Australian mare Winx (132) was second on the list but was adjudged the world’s best Turf horse for 2017, while Cracksman (130) and Enable (128) are ranked next.
