Dubai- Artists from around the world will be taking part in this year’s Dubai International Art Symposium, under the theme Coloured Tweets, through which they will all speak the universal language of art.

The DIAS will commence on April 13 and end on April 20 with 30 local and international artists from more than 25 countries showcasing their artwork. The theme of the symposium this year is Coloured Tweets, giving renowned artists the chance to transform humanitarian tweets by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, into unique pieces of art according to their respective visions.

Shaikh Mohammad’s tweets will be released during the Rashid Cultural Season this year in the form of a book.

Mariam Othman, Director-General of Rashid Centre for the Disabled, said that although the centre has participated in numerous art exhibitions, they were mainstream unlike the DIAS.

“The main goal is to highlight the humanitarian message and this message is extremely clear through the words of His Highness’ humanitarian tweets,” she said. “It will affect society a lot in a positive way.”

Also attending the press conference was Ali Al Ameri, an artist, poet and art director of DIAS, who highlighted the importance of the symposium in order to ensure intellectual communication between civilisations through art.

“The hope is to take the Coloured Tweets and to translate them from the language of words into a language that doesn’t need translation, which is art,” he said.

Similarly, Shaikh Juma Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, Acting Chairman of Rashid Centre, said that through the DIAS artists from around the world will take back the tweets by Shaikh Mohammad and display them artistically on a canvas.

“The symposium will enhance cultural dialogue in order to serve noble human goals,” said Shaikh Juma.

At the end of the Dubai International Art Symposium, art pieces will collected and be displayed to showcase the Coloured Tweets made throughout.

“The event will take place on May 4 at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, in the Souk Madinat Jumeirah section and I think some will also go on for auction,” said Mariam Othman.
