Pulimurugan has been one of the most anticipated Malayalam movies of the year, even more so because of the south Indian movie superstar Mohanlal who plays the lead role. Here's what you should know about the movie.

1. Plot

The literal translation of the name of the movie is 'Tiger Murugan' and Mohanlal stars as Murugan. Murugan is a tribal living in Puliyur where constant visits by man-eating tigers from the forest lead to gruesome deaths of the villagers, including children. With his uncanny reflexes and knowledge of the forest that is his home, Murugan is hailed as a saviour for the people as he traps and kills the beasts. However, such acts make him a prime target for police officers and forest rangers. In his race against the law, he gets caught up in trouble that he had not bargained for.

2. Cast

Mohanlal plays the main character, Murugan while Lal plays the role of his funny and slightly wayward uncle, Balaraman. Other actors include Kamalini Mukherjee, Namitha, Suraj Venjyaramoodu and Jagapathi Babu.

3. What we loved

We loved the action sequences and Mohanlal, given his age, is impressive in the action stunts and scenes - many of which he did without a body double. The cinematography is beautiful as are the parts that involve the tiger attacks. The forest and the scenery around has been captured with full justice to the location.

4. What didn't impress

The humour is slightly overdone and some jokes might be uncomfortable if you have younger kids watching the movie as well. The plot is quite predictable and some scenes are drawn out for no apparent reason.

5. Our favourite part

The action sequence at the end definitely made our watch worth it. In the second half, Murugan fights professional hitmen wielding various kinds of weapons from pistols to blow-guns and boomerang blades. All of the stunts looked original and were perfectly choreographed, while Mohanlal stunned us with some cool acrobatics.
