Out of data and have no way to check your Whatsapp? If you’re at a beach, a mall, an airport or in other public areas, chances are you’ll be able to log onto the internet for free.

Telecom major etisalat’s new UAE WiFi initiative lets UAE residents connect to the internet using their mobile devices in more than 250 major public locations across the country.

The plan benefits the provider’s mobile data customers subscribed to 1GB mobile data allowance or higher can now enjoy free access through the public WiFi. The free allowance ranges from 5 hours to 30 hours, depending on the mobile data package.

UAE residents without a pre-existing data plan can buy a WiFi package at Dh25 for two days or Dh100 for ten days, using either a local credit cards, or the Wasel recharge card.

To use the service customers visiting key public locations in the UAE including shopping malls, parks, beaches, entertainment and sports venues, airports and much more, should connect to the ‘UAE WiFi by etisalat’ WiFi SSID signal. Access is enabled after a one-time registration that requires using the mobile number as a login ID and an SMS-generated PIN number as a password. The location of etisalat’s WiFi hotspots are available on the its website.

The initiative aligns with the country’s “smart” vision and focuses on delivering WiFi coverage across all UAE regions, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Northern Emirates, according to a statement. It fosters digital adoption by providing residents seamless and secured Internet access, using the most advanced technologies.

Du, the country’s other telecom major, already offers free WiFi in 100 locations around the country.
