Abu Dhabi: Jenson Button has reiterated his ardent desire to remain in Formula One, despite admitting he may have competed in his last race at Sunday’s Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The 34-year-old Briton finished in an impressive fifth position for McLaren to seal eighth place in the drivers’ championship.

But Button looks set to be replaced at the British team by two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso, although he maintains he does not want to ‘walk away’ from F1 just yet.

“There will always be ups and downs in a career this long,” the 2009 world champion said after the race at Yas Marina Circuit.

“You could say it’s been a pretty good 15 years. I think any driver would be happy to retire now. But you can see on the circuit what makes championships and careers, and I’m totally not ready to walk away. I’ve always given 100 per cent. Sometimes it doesn’t work out for you. But I’m not interested in getting in any type of racing car and risking my life and not giving 100 per cent.”

“A lot of people asked me if it was different because it might be my last one,” Button added.

“It was my family and friends who looked at me in a different way, which made me emotional. Before the race, all the mechanics were there ready for the man hugs and that was really tough. I could see it in their faces.”
