Short+Sweet Festival, a two-day theatre competition that showcases local plays, returns on January 19 and 20 at The Arts Center in Abu Dhabi.

On each night, audiences can watch 10 shows, running for a duration of 10 minutes each, inside the Blue Hall.

On Saturday, an additional Wildcard performance will take place in the afternoon.

A jury will decide the best male and female actors, best new talent, best writer, best director, best independent theatre company and best overall play. Meanwhile, the audience will be able to choose their favourite play via a voting slip received upon entrance. The play with the most votes will be the People’s Choice winner.

The global competition is now in its third edition in Abu Dhabi. It began in Australia more than a decade ago and currently takes place in seven countries around the world.

“Short+Sweet provides a wonderful opportunity for people to give writing, directing, or acting a go… whether you’re an experienced theatre practitioner or new to the world of theatre, Short+Sweet has something for everybody,” said festival director Zakaia Cvitanovich.

Tickets go on sale on January 8 at 3pm. Performances take place on January 19 and 20 at 8pm; one Wildcard performance will take place on January 20 at 3pm.
