Watch the peerless super detective Sherlock Holmes and his trusty partner Watson match wits with an enemy bent on destroying them, in a new tale of intrigue this January, when Sherlock — A Play comes to UAE’s shores.

The Hive and Tall Tales production are partnering up to stage the show from January 18-20 at The Junction Theatre, Al Serkal Avenue. And in line with the UAE’s #yearofgiving campaign, they will donate the proceeds from the play to two charity organisations in the country.

Follow Holmes and Watson into Arthur Conan Doyle’s foggy Victorian London to witness a mystery of fun proportions, complete with action scenes and odd happenings — after all, what would Holmes be without certain elementary moves?

Director Jimish Thakkar said: “The idea was to start from where most famous Sherlock stories have ended. This adaptation starts with and centres on a death threat against Sherlock Holmes, who for the first time is challenged to solve the case of his life (or death)”.

“I hope to blend thrill and laughter in equal amounts while recreating the melodramatic style of the period in which the story takes place” added Thakkar.

Asad Raza Khan, who plays the titular character in the play, said: “The original novels reached a wide, diverse audience and many people still hold up Sherlock Holmes as the greatest detective of all time.

“You have to make sure that you are true to the legend. This requires a lot of pre-work, effort, and research to make sure justice is served to the sleuth, as well as the audiences coming for the play.”

Kuvam Sharma, who plays Doctor Watson, says: “To have the opportunity to bring Dr Watson to life out of the books is a true privilege and a daunting task, in equal measures. But I must admit as a theatre actor, this challenge also provides me with the necessary drive to sincerely work hard at portraying the lovable Doctor.”

Tickets to Sherlock — A Play, which runs from January 18-20 at 7.30pm (with a matinee show on 20th at 2.30pm), are Dh100.
