According to www.arthurconandoyle.com, the official website of his literary estate, Doyle started writing the novel, which catapulted him to fame, in March 1886. At first, the two main characters were called Sheridan Hope and Ormond Sacker. But, two years later the immortal characters were introduced to the world as Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson in the novel titled ‘A Study in Scarlet’.

In the book series, Holmes works as a detective for 23 years, with Watson assisting him for 17. The characters’ chemistry and the curiosity to know how they will solve the next murder mystery is likely to keep anyone at the edge of their seats and make them nervous about what’s to come.

He also created Professor Challenger, another fictional character, who was portrayed as someone who could solve any problem or get out of any unsavoury situation. And it was all Doyle’s imagination on paper. It leaves one wondering about and intrigued by his interest in the elements of mystery.
