I am an avid reader and there are a few books that really touched me.

Some are the books written by the Indian author Sudha Murthy. Her collection of stories touches upon the daily life issues and woes of the common man, stories with which you can relate to very well.

But, one book, ‘Princess: A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia’ written by Jean Sasson based on the true life story of the Saudi Royal Family shows the reality that life in the golden palaces is not as rosy as they seem to be.

This book completely changed my perception on the life of the rich and famous. The story, as told to the author, shows us that despite being rich and having the money to buy almost everything that the heart desires, how one is deprived of the minuscule pleasures of our daily life. This has indeed made me thank God for the life that I lead, happiness in small things, rejoicing in the small joys of childhood that my daughter enjoys, her milestones and her journey into the academic world, the joy of having unconditional love, support of my husband and the blessings of my parents, the love and joy of being with friends and being able to share and discuss our joys and sorrows freely.

My journey into the world of books still continues. The thirst, or should I say the greed to read more in this techsavy world, continues. I enjoy having a printed, bound book in my hand rather than the e-books that today’s generation is hooked on to. I keep trying to instill this habit of reading in my daughter, too. She does read, but not as voraciously as I do.
