After Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Palestinian play I am Yusuf and This is my Brother, Oscar Wilde’s farcical comedy, The Importance of Being Earnest, will get a Dubai revival from October 20 to 24 at the Courtyard Playhouse.

Brought to stage by Dubai Drama Group, the play will transport theatre lovers to England in the 1890s, where straight-laced magistrate Jack Worthing heads to London from staid countryside obligations to become his pleasure-seeking alter-ego Ernest. Between courting socialite Gwendolyn and dodging her mother Lady Bracknell, Jack keeps one eye on his wastrel of a best friend, Algernon, who has also taken the name of Ernest to charm Jack’s ward Cecily.

There will be four evening performances (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday) and two matinees (Friday and Saturday). To reserve seats, go to courtyardplayhouse.com/whats-on. Entrance is by suggested donation of Dh90. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm performance (evenings), and 3pm for a 3.30pm performance (matinees).
