Abu Dhabi: Two new month-long events and a number of Bollywood performances have been added to the annual Abu Dhabi Summer Season programme, the Abu Dhabi Tourism Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) announced on Monday.

The summer event which will run from July 7 to September 11 across the emirate of Abu Dhabi has the expected concerts, circus performances, comedy acts, theatre shows plus two new events titled Fun Nation and The District and a number of shows catering to the Indian community.

Fun Nation will take place between July 14 and August 6 at Yas Island’s du Forum and will host a range of activities including gaming, cooking, sports and fashion that will provide an opportunity for the entire family to get together.

The District is aimed at teenagers and youths aged between 14 and 22 by providing a safe environment for them to take part in activities that will be educational as well as entertaining. The event themes include innovation, entertainment, technology, fashion, digital media, health, science, nutrition and sustainability. It will start on August 11 and run until the end of Abu Dhabi Summer Season at du Forum, and offer activities seven days week.

Speaking to Gulf News Mubarak Hamad Al Shamsi, director of Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau TCA Abu Dhabi, said, “We are always looking to bring new additions to the Abu Dhabi Summer Season. The District and Fun Nation are new events that we did not have before and we are very excited these and they will cater to everybody.”

“We are also focusing on the Indian market. We are celebrating the Indian Independence Day with a lot of musical shows. Eighteen main events will take place in these three months, not to mention the smaller events that we will have across Abu Dhabi during the Abu Dhabi Summer Season,” he added.

To celebrate the growing number of Indian visitors to the summer event and the Indian Independence Day, which is on August 15, the organisers have included performances by Bollywood stars such as Shankar, Ehsan and Loy, Vishal and Shekhar, and Shaan.

The increase of visitors from India outnumbered visitors from any other region, counting for a 30 per cent increase in Abu Dhabi Summer Season 2015 compared to the previous year. There was a 24.4 per cent rise in the number of American tourists, 18 per cent rise in Europeans, and 10 per cent rise in visitors from GCC countries.

A total of of 16 main performances will take place as part of Abu Dhabi Summer Season some of which include Illusionist Jamie Raven, The Wayans Brothers, Indian comedian Kapil, Cirque Adrenaline, Alvin and the Chipmunks The Musical, The Comedy Get Down and comedians Darin Al Bayed and Tamim Al Falasi as part of Arab Comedy Festival.

Organisers said they hoped this year’s line-up and new additions will have a positive impact on the number of visitors to the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
