Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical Cats will come to Dubai Opera for ten days from January 16 to 25 next year.

Adapted from TS Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the original production is one of the longest-running shows in London’s West End and Broadway history. With a musical score that includes the classic Memory, stunning costumes and breath-taking choreography, this will be the first time the original production will be performed in Dubai.

Cats is one of the first musicals in the spectacular new Dubai Opera where the production can be seen as intended. Cats has now been seen in over 30 countries world-wide and the team are very much looking forward to performing in Dubai,” Lloyd Webber said in a statement.

Cats is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you can enjoy with friends, colleagues and your family, said Liz Koops, CEO of Broadway Entertainment Group, the company presenting the show in Dubai. “I remember visiting Dubai in 2001 to explore the possibility of presenting this wonderful show and now this dream has become reality. Cats is one of the most successful musicals of all time as it has that special air of magic which everyone should experience.”

Cats premiered at the New London Theatre in 1981 where it played for almost 9,000 performances. The show then returned to the West End in 2014 reuniting the original creative team, Director Trevor Nunn, Associate Director and Choreographer Gillian Lynne, Designer John Napier and Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. Memory has been recorded by more than 150 artists from Barbra Streisand and Johnny Mathis to Liberace.

Tickets to the Cats show, starting at Dh275, go on sale on September 29 on dubaiopera.com and ticketmaster.ae.
