We feel like inmates of our building, which is located in the National Paints area of Sharjah, as we’re facing a horrible situation due to improper construction management since the past one year. Just in front of our building’s entrance, there are two big ditches without a pedestrian track (as seen in photograph).

When the construction work began, there wasn’t even a security barrier around the ditch. Pedestrians would slip and fall. Many people visit the building next to ours, because a bank, a clinic and a pharmacy are located in the premises.

Additionally, there is no parking area for the customers; it’s like a desert full of ditches. Patients visiting the clinic have to park far away and walk; those in wheel chairs have the toughest time. There is only one ATM in this entire area, which is located at the bank that I mentioned. I’ve noticed several people struggling to reach the ATM to withdraw money. Many times, the customers have fallen in the dug out areas.

We are afraid for our children leaving for school in the morning and returning later in the day because of this construction work. There aren’t any temporary wooden pathways placed over the ditches for people to cross and children often try jumping over.

We are totally disturbed with this unprofessional construction work, without any consideration for the residents and those who work in this area. It is common courtesy for construction companies to respect pedestrians and create a route for them to safely pass through the construction area. Additionally, there are no signs warning pedestrians of the works.

We sincerely request the authorities to address this serious matter as soon as possible and avoid such long-standing practices, especially in residential areas.
