Dubai: The government has officially launched the Expo 2020 logo design contest, according to a statement on Monday.

The contest is open to all UAE residents and citizens. The winning design, which will be announced on October 20 this year, will be seen by millions when the UAE hosts the six-month trade fair on October 2020.

The contest submission period runs until April 30. Entrants are expected to create a design that reflects the main theme of the event: Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. All entries will be reviewed by a panel of design experts, with the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee creating a shortlist of finalists.

“Expo 2020 Dubai is for the people. With this in mind, we have a strong vision for the official logo to embody both the creativity and passion of the nation for this milestone event in our collective journey,” Reem Al Hashemi, UAE Minister of State and Board Representative of the Dubai Expo 2020 Higher Committee and Director General, Bureau Dubai Expo 2020, said in a statement.

“Our hope is that everyone from our youngest students to our seasoned designers will be inspired, and strengthen their relationship with Expo 2020 Dubai by submitting a design that could be selected as the Expo 2020 Dubai official emblem,” she added.

Aside from having their logo as the official Expo 2020 emblem, the winner will win Dh100,000, plus a trip for four to three previous World Expo cities, and receive a season pass for two for Expo 2020 Dubai, including an invitation to the official opening ceremony.
