Dubai: The recent trip to Dubai by US President Donald Trump’s sons have cost taxpayers quite a sum of money, according to reports.
Eric and Donald Trump had earlier spent a lavish weekend when they travelled to the UAE in February for a special event to mark the opening of the Trump International Golf Club in Dubai.
It was the first joint business trip overseas by the Trump brothers since the president took his oath of office this year.
According to a report by NBC News, Federal documents showed that the mid-February visit cost the White House $16,738.36 (Dh61,478.32), which went to security detail.
The trip, however, didn’t cost as much as Eric and Tiffany Trump’s business trip to Vancouver in late February, which racked up a total bill of $53,155.25 and Eric’s earlier visit to Uruguay in January that cost $97,830.
The Trump family’s expenses during business trips abroad have been placed under scrutiny since the president assumed office. Members of the presidential family are entitled to a retinue of Secret Service agents when they fly to another country on business.
Work on the Trump International Golf Course in Dubai started about four years ago. It is the centrepiece of a real estate development consisting of premium villas and flats, some of them are being sold for as much as $4 million.
