Dubai: The Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee received Vicente Loscertales, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the governing body of World Expos, according to a statement on Monday.

The purpose of the visit was to build on the ongoing partnership with the BIE and provide an update on the progress of Expo 2020 in Dubai.

The Secretary General was welcomed by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee Chairman, President of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, as well as other members of the Higher Committee.

“We are pleased to continue our strong collaborative relationship with the BIE and welcome their affirmation, support and unique insight in ensuring that Expo 2020 Dubai meets all requirements for the Registration Phase and becomes a truly exceptional World Expo…,” said Shaikh Ahmad in the statement.

The Higher Committee presented an update on developments of work streams related to the event, which is part of the mandatory Registration Phase. They discussed the pertinent issues associated with the event including theme development and implementation, master plan and site works, participant and visitor engagement strategies, communication and marketing, business operations and legacy.

“As the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, African and South Asian region, Expo 2020 is on course to become a truly meaningful event; one that is a platform for partnerships and innovation and one that leverages the global convening power of World Expos to bring together different identities and experiences from hundreds of nations, companies and international organisations in ways that we have not seen before,” Loscertales said in the statement.
