Celebrated Indian actor Dhritiman Chatterjee will be one of the headliners at Abhijaan, the three-day event dedicated to Bengali films, in Dubai from February 5.

Chatterjee, also known for his work in Bollywood films, will be joined by actress Rituparna Sengupta, actor Saswata Chatterjee, director Srijit Mukherjee, film distributor Arijit Dutta and director and producer Arindam Sil.

Seven films will be screened over the three days, to be held at the conference centre in Knowledge Village. Mukherjee’s film, Chotushkone, a thriller starring Aparna Sen and Goutam Ghosh, will open the festival. Each film screening will be followed by a Q&A session, while panel discussions on various topics will also be held.

“We are growing gradually, thanks to the response we received last year. Things were at a smaller scale for the first festival. But this time, we have increased the number of films and also improved on the overall quality,” said Sibani Chakrabarty, one of the organisers of the event. “Our aim [is] to showcase a selection of exemplary Bengali films with universal themes, using them to break the barrier of languages and reach out to people of all cultures.”

Abhijaan will run from February 5 to 7. Tickets for film screenings are priced at Dh30 for days shows and Dh35 for evening shows. They will be made available soon. For updates, go to Facebook.com and look for Bengali Film Festival Dubai.
