Sex tapes, scandals, selfies, screaming matches and diva-driven dramas both real and imagined — it is the heady mix that has helped turn the Kardashians into the most successful TV family ever.

The Kardashians, at once the most reviled and loved dysfunctional family in the world, last week signed a deal to keep their show Keeping Up With The Kardashians on the E! channel for another three years, with an option for a fourth.

While the New York Post reported on Thursday that the deal was worth more than $100 million (Dh367 million). Cory Shields, a spokesman for NBCUniversal Cable, was quoted by the New York Times as saying that the figure was “grossly inaccurate”.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians is one of E!’s few bright spots, an exception to the 10 per cent drop in the network’s prime time ratings for the coveted 18-49-year-old viewership; the eighth and ninth seasons of Keeping Up With The Kardashians both had an average of 3.5 million viewers live and seven days after an episode was televised, Nielsen, the company that tracks ratings, said. The 10th season starts on March 22 in the US; a UAE airdate is not yet confirmed.
