Tensions flare as Spice Girls prepare for a reunion
Victoria Beckham has reportedly only agreed to the reunion on the provision the girls will never reform again
However Victoria Beckham has only agreed to the reunion on the provision the girls will never reform again, sources have said.
A friend close to Geri Halliwell told MailOnline that Ginger Spice said: “After the Olympics I can’t imagine even talking to her again, let alone being on a stage with her. Mel B. was right, she has lost the spirit of the band.”
The news fashion designer Beckham is keen to distance herself from the group that found her fame, may not come as a huge surprise given the seemingly obvious tensions between her and the rest of the Spice Girls at the Viva Forever launch, where she posed for pictures stood away from the group.
Mel C and Mel B voiced frustration at being left off the bill for the Diamond Jubilee concert last month and it appears the girls blame Beckham.
Halliwell told pals: “None of us can understand why she won’t take advantage of these opportunities. Now is the time to be together again as a band and she and Mel B. can’t be in the same room together.”
Speaking about meeting up at the Viva Forever press launch she added: “After the stunt she pulled at the Viva Forever press conference she said she’s never preform with us again and then with David not being chosen for the team, she didn’t even want to discuss it.”
A spokesperson for Beckham told MailOnline: “The Spice Girls have received some amazing invitations to perform over the last few years, however personal family and professional reasons mean this has not been possible, the Olympics is one more amazing opportunity but no announcement has been made or confirmation given, so this is nothing more than speculation at this time.”
While there has been no official announcement about the girls taking part in the official Olympics closing ceremony, a source told MailOnline the girls will be singing two numbers, one of which will be their 1997 hit Spice Up Your Life; the other is thought to be Wannabe.
The group hasn’t sung together for four years since 2008, but if they do go ahead with the coveted gig they look set to join the likes of Take That, George Michael and The Who on stage.
Recently Beckham fuelled rumours she’d be happy to reunite for a one-off show on RTE radio’s John Murray Show saying: “I’m so respectful of my past and I love the other girls. We have some fantastic fans.
“Who knows, maybe some day we’ll do something else with the Spice Girls. I would love nothing more.
“I don’t know about a comeback tour, but I loved being back with the girls. There was a lot of fun, we did so much together and we’ll see. If they’re up for something, then I certainly am.”
She added: “We are so proud to be English and we are very excited about the Olympics.”
A spokesperson for Halliwell was unavailable for comment.
