If you missed Pandit Shivkumar Sharma’s santoor concert in October, here’s another chance to hear the melodious instrument.

On November 28, as part of the Indian Festival of Performing Arts, Swaralaya, Sharma’s son, Rahul, will play the 1,000-stringed instrument at Ductac, Mall of the Emirates.

The MTV award winner Rahul has learnt to play the santoor from his father, who is credited for re-creating, evolving and bringing this ancient Kashmiri instrument into Indian classical music.

Rahul has collaborated with accomplished international musicians such as the saxophonist Kenny G and French pianist Richard Clayderman with whom he has composed two albums, of which Confluence remains a bestseller in India even today. He has performed at music festivals such as Womad and the Edinburgh Festival and composed several albums including Rebel, a santoor-rock album. His new age album, Zen, received the best instrumental album award by MTV IMMIES India.

Rahul will be accompanied by Mukund Raj Deo on the tabla and Giridhar Udupa on the ghatam (a clay percussion instrument).

The concert will be held at the Centrepoint Theatre from 8pm, doors open 7pm. Tickets are priced at Dh100, Dh150 and Dh200. Call 050-4295293 or the Ductac box office on 04-3414777.
