Dubai: Germany’s award-winning DJ Paul Van Dyk will return to Dubai on February 27. Van Dyk will head behind the decks at Zero Gravity, Skydive Dubai Drop Zone in Dubai Marina as a part of his global tour.

The electronic dance producer was the first artist to be nominated for a Grammy in the Best Dance/Electronic category for his 2003 album, Reflections, helping to kick off a new era of celebrity DJs. He also contributed a remix of Hans Zimmer’s Poor Choice of Words to The Dark Knight soundtrack, which went on to win a Grammy in 2009.

In 2013, Van Dyk had the number one spot on DJ Mag’s list of best DJs of all time. In an interview conducted by fellow DJ Ron Slomowicz, Van Dyk said his first reaction upon learning he won top place was “don’t cry”.

“I thought I was probably going to be somewhere in the top three,” he said. “Then they announce Armin as number three and Tiesto as two, and I was like, no way. When the people saw that I possibly will be number one, the whole venue started to scream and they started to chant my name.”

Though it takes a lot to make him speechless, he said that moment had him short of breath, wobbly in the knees and sufficiently overwhelmed.

“The next thing that came in to my mind was thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Van Dyk is known for remixing songs by popular musicians from across different genres such as Madonna and U2.
